Cyber Essentials Plus in PurLayer: A More Honest Purview Strategy Baseline

PurLayer’s latest update adds Cyber Essentials Plus to UK strategy coverage, with five-theme mappings, current terminology and licence-aware recommendations.

Why this update matters

Cyber Essentials Plus is a practical UK security framework, but it is not a single Microsoft Purview feature set. A useful strategy must show where Purview contributes, where other controls are required and which recommendations are available at the customer's Microsoft 365 licence tier.

PurLayer's latest update brings that distinction into the strategy baseline. Cyber Essentials Plus is now included in UK region coverage and reflected across the strategy generator, framework coverage, recommendations and white-label PDF output.

The Purview-relevant mapping

The update focuses the Cyber Essentials Plus mapping on the evidence that Microsoft Purview can actually support: secure configuration signals from device compliance, and user access evidence from access governance and multi-factor authentication.

Recommendations are tied to the customer's Microsoft 365 licence tier, so the strategy can distinguish between available Purview capabilities rather than treating the full framework as a Purview feature list.

This keeps the blog and the generated strategy outputs focused on Purview's role: translating available Microsoft 365 evidence into useful control recommendations without attributing unrelated infrastructure capabilities to the platform.

Current language and current evidence

The update also refreshes the surrounding terminology. Strategy outputs use current Microsoft Purview naming and current eDiscovery references, so implementation teams are not sent towards retired product names or outdated links.

The same evidence model is used in the interactive strategy view and in exported reports. A consultant can move from a sector objective to a licence-aware recommendation without losing the framework context or the source of the control mapping.

Available across Professional and Partner workflows

Cyber Essentials Plus coverage is available in the UK strategy experience for Professional users and in Partner workflows. Partner teams can therefore include the framework in client strategy packs and white-label reports alongside the other UK regulatory and sector frameworks.

Recommendations remain licence-aware. A strategy does not recommend an E5-only or Copilot-dependent capability to an organisation that cannot use it, and the framework mapping does not alter PurLayer's credit model or Phase 7 storage behaviour.

A better starting point for UK security planning

The result is a more useful Purview planning document: current Microsoft terminology, licence-aware recommendations and a focused explanation of where Purview evidence supports Cyber Essentials Plus strategy work.
